I’m really honored to have interviewed this person. He was responsible in large part for me getting into improv, so technically this guy changed my life. Because of him, I learned the incredible value of saying “yes” to new opportunities and of being around people who support me without hesitation. Because of him, I learned that taking time to play can help you in your work. And because of him, I found my second family – the improv community of St. Louis.
Meet Bill Chott.
What is your first and last name?
Bill Chott
How long have you been a non-vegan?
I was born a vegan, but milk was forced on me at an early age. I have tried vegetarianism and will most likely return to a mostly vegetarian diet soon.
Why have you decided not to be vegan?
I haven’t made up my mind. It’s probably because I’m not thinking clearly. I could use some protein right now.
Where do you get your protein?
Mostly meat, fish, eggs and a daily protein shake. The shake includes milk and I dislike it when made with water, almond or soy milk so I could probably never be truly vegan. I love cheese, too.
What vegan food do you fear you’re missing out on as a non-vegan?
I don’t know of any vegan options that I dislike. When I went vegetarian for a few months, I learned I love quinoa and kale. My new guilty pleasure is hearing people mispronounce quinoa.
Do you eat fish? You eat fish, right?
I was raised Catholic and then Orthodox Catholic, so I have had my fair share of fish growing up. I prefer cod, and I make a nice salmon. Because my faith was changed without any major input from me, I view religion as rather fishy as a whole. What I eat or don’t eat does not define my spirituality. But I prefer Hebrew National hot dogs.
Are there any animals in your life, such as pets or funny neighborhood squirrels? Tell us a story about them.
My dog Wally just passed away. He was the best! We’d take daily walks for three miles, and he was my constant companion when I wrote in my office. I never thought about eating him once.
What do you do for fun besides eating meat and dairy?
I chew up scenery.
Do you have any upcoming projects you want to plug?
I voiced a character for an upcoming animated film called Snow King, and I’m appearing at the Magic Castle, iO West and Flappers comedy club this month. As always, I teach improv and anyone can take a free class at www.theimprovtrick.com.
Make up a question of your own and answer it.
Have you ever spit out meat?
(spitting out meat) Who me?
