Interview: Vote to Repeal Aurora’s Pit Bull Ban and Nancy Tranzow Vows to Go Vegan

Nancy says, "Vote yes on 2D or else."

Nancy says, “Vote yes on 2D or else.”

Okay, maybe that is a lie that I just made up. But hey, maybe I just gave Nancy an idea. An idea that will shore up support for pit bulls in Aurora. If she loves pit bulls (and public safety), I think Nancy would do everything possible to make sure this ban on pit bulls gets repealed. Everything possible. Nancy. Do it.

I’ll let you know if it works. Anyway, what you should know right now, is that Nancy Tranzow is an incredible person. She has fought and continues to fight against all kinds of -isms. She works hard every day on behalf of the people and the dogs who need advocates the most. Also, she’s dang funny.

Meet Nancy Tranzow.

How long have you been a non-vegan?
For about 47 years. It started with a tofu tragedy. I still can’t talk about it.

Why have you decided not to be vegan? Describe your journey to veganism and where you got stalled.
At the first step honestly. I was a vegetarian for a long time and finally made peace with cognitive dissonance and started eating meat again. It’s not like I woke up one day and said, “I’m going to go grab a burger filled with ground up dead animal. It was a slow, methodical slide into ignoring what I know.

If you had to take one step toward becoming vegan, what would it be and why only one?
I would get my bow and arrow, the tiny one, and hunt some Brussels sprouts. Maybe even some cauliflower and tofu if my aim is still good. I haven’t been vegetable hunting in a long time so I’m not sure if I could any longer. I wouldn’t take a second step because hunting veggies is really exhausting. I would go to bed and nap as a second step.
*Note: I despise hunting animals. Again, cognitive dissonance. I know!

Which fad diet or meat-eating celebrity made you want to eat animals?
Ted Nugent for sure. I have always looked up to homophobic, racist, cussing, non-showering, animal hunting jerks.

What vegan food do you fear you’re missing out on as a non-vegan?
I have to miss out on vegan food? Can I have the rulebook again?

Do you eat fish? You eat fish, right?
Fish makes me vomit. Always has. I can’t even be in a room with fish cooking.

nancydogsAre there any animals in your life, such as pets or funny neighborhood squirrels? Tell us a story about them.
I have several dogs, fish (they don’t smell in their tank), and run a pit bull focused rescue. My puppy Bodhi, a heeler, is keeping me busy these days. He’s very smart and a complete pest. I adore him.

What do you do for fun besides eating meat and dairy?
I work to end breed specific legislation and replace it with breed neutral laws that truly protect public safety. I anger people because of that so my other hobby is throwing back cyber grenades launched at me.

Do you have any upcoming projects you want to plug? Tell us about them.
YES! If you live in Aurora, vote YES on 2D!

Make up a question of your own and answer it.
Why are you doing this interview?
Because Rimmert is pretty OK even if her breath always smells like she’s just eaten vegan food.
